Not-So-Normal
Today we are going to toss around a few business ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
Having a “bonus” income stream is great, and oftentimes enjoyable.
The difficulty lies in choosing a business that is possible to do well in given your unique situation. Unfortunately, most try their side hustle for a week, then quit and go back to watching two hours of Netflix every night.
Here is the thing. Even if it does fail, you likely learned a few things besides the perfect time to pop your popcorn in the microwave.
These ideas are actually from a video by Nate O’Brien. I’ll link it below but wanted to do a quick dive into my favorite ones from the list.
Without further ado, here are five unique business ideas.
Selling Templates
There is a template for everything.
Think of a process and chances are you can create a template on how to do it properly. Budgeting, financial planning, grocery store lists, exam study guides, business roadmaps, wedding planners, you name it, there’s a possible template.
This is simple and easy to start up as all you need is design software (canva or google docs) and a platform to sell on (Etsy). Bonus points for this one if you have any type of audience as driving traffic will be easier.
3-D Printing Business
If I had to label one of these ideas as “on-the-come-up” it would be a 3-D printing business. The technology around 3D printing has been rapidly progressing. Heck, they are even starting to 3D print houses.
All you need to get rolling with this one is a machine (actually not that expensive) and modeling software, many of which can be downloaded for free.
A buddy of mine is a wiz with his printer and creates all sorts of handy gadgets.
Outdoor Offices
This is a fancy example, but you get the point.
For all the Bob The Builders out there here is an idea for you.
Do you work from home? Are you fed up with constant distractions? Dogs barking, kids running around, the oven going off, I could go on. If this is you, then it’s time for an outdoor office.
There is your pitch.
Seriously though, I thought this was an interesting idea especially given the massive rise in popularity of work-from-home. Essentially one would build out a shed and turn it into an outdoor office space. Of course, you would need some handyman skills to install windows, put in flooring, run electricity, paint, etc (or could outsource this work).
My thought here is your target market would be quite wealthy, which would let you sell these for a decent bit of mulah.
Co-working Spaces
Similar to the above idea, you would be targeting mostly virtual workers.
The business plan here would be to build out a creative space for people that want to get out of the house for work. A few small conference rooms, some kick-ass wifi, and a couple of coffee machines and you’d be ready to open shop.
Focus on building a community and this could really take off.
Skills Check
If you are good at something, chances are you could get paid to teach it. How to shave a couple of strokes of your golf game, how to play piano, how to dominate in chess, how to speak another language, the list goes on forever.
You know who you are…
For example, I can’t count the amount of hitting lessons I went to growing up (ya boy could kind of hit a baseball). More recently, I’ve spent hundreds on learning how to write better, tactics for growing an audience, and strategies to make money online.
Long story short, don’t take what you know for granted. Chumps like me will pay for you to provide the shortcuts.
Conclusion
There are a million different business ideas out there, but often times everyone gets caught up on the same thing. If you see an opportunity there is no reason not to give it a try, even if the idea seems weird at the moment.
