There’s A New King In Town

Today I’m going to give my honest review of my new favorite finance tool.

DRUMM ROLLL…..meet Monarch Money.

Tracking your finances is arguably the most important financial habit you can adopt. Monarch has become my wife and I’s go-to for keeping up with spending, saving, and investing.

Thanks to technology it is easier and more affordable than ever to setup a system that monitors your money.

Below I’m going to show you the features, as well as give you my tips and tricks after using it over the last 10 months. 👇

What Is Monarch Money

In short, Monarch is a personal finance app that does almost everything (I’ll get into the one drawback later).

The cool part about Monarch is it was designed for couples and families. The app and website is built in a way that looks modern, but doesn’t give you a headache when trying to find a certain feature.

One of the main reasons I’ve switched to it from EveryDollar is that everything is automated and it also includes investing accounts. That said, the investing page is the one drawback as I’d love to see more details on holdings, dividends, sector allocation, etc.

It is a subscription based model. Normal pricing is $14.99 a month, or you can purchase the yearly subscription for $100 ($8.33/month). Overall it is very affordable, and below there is a way to cut this in half.

Tips for Using

Once you get into Monarch and start playing around with the tools you realize it is a very capable platform. While setup can take a little time investment, once up and rolling tracking becomes very simple.

1) Link Your Accounts - Since my wife and I are on the same account we linked all of our bank, investing, and credit card accounts. This way you have the full financial picture.

2) Simplify Categories - Monarch comes with a ton of categories. We found it helpful to simplify these categories a bit as it makes reviewing at the end of each month easier.

3) Setup Rules - This is one of the coolest features. For spending items you can setup rules for transactions that auto classify spending items into whichever category you choose.

Reviewing Spending

As an example I wanted to give a look into what the platform looks like with a few examples directly from my finance dashboard. I’ve blocked out the numbers, but you can get the gist of the simplicity of Monarch while still clearly seeing the important info.

Conclusion

Monarch has surprised me in terms of being simple to use while also having a ton of cool features.

As a testament, my wife even says that she enjoys using the app (miracles do happen).

This isn’t a sponsored post, but they are offering 50% off your first year right now which is why I figured it was a good time for this post. Not for sure how long this offer will last, but if you are thinking about trying out the platform I’d appreciate if you use my link as I’ll get a small kickback.

That’s it for this one. If you do try Monarch and need help setting it up shoot me an email and we can jump on a quick call.
