When 10 figures isn't enough.

Poor Billionaires

Some say that money can’t buy happiness.

While that is debatable, it’s doesn’t take much wisdom to realize that money isn’t everything.

Coming off last weekend after hanging with a bunch of friends and family it made me think….

There is probably someone out there worth 10 figures that would give it up to take my seat around the fire with 15 good buddies, a few cold drinks, singing Toby Keith at 1AM (RIP to a legend).

Here’s more on this thought. 👇️

Microsoft Money

Let’s start off by mentioning what is obvious. Billionaires can pretty much afford whatever they want. Exotic cars, 100ft yachts, multiple houses at different vacation destinations, etc.

They are on top of the world when it comes to paying for the luxury things in life.

Take for example Markus Persson, the creator of Minecraft (nerd alert). In 2014 Markus sold Minecraft to Microsoft for $2.5B. Following this, he supposedly outbid Beyoncé and Jay Z for a 23,000 square foot home in Beverly Hills. This purchase was to the tune of $70 million and set an LA sale record (chump change am I right?!).

After this monstrous buy, he spent a lot of his time partying with famous people at his new crib and traveling to Ibiza multiple times a year.

Endless cash and time freedom. Seems like the ultimate life? Not quite.

The dude was balling, but on the inside things were far from sunshine and rainbows.

What Billionaires Can’t Buy

At a glance one would think Markus had it all figured out.

That is, until he posted a series of tweets about his struggles.

“The problem with getting everything is you run out of reasons to keep trying, and human interaction becomes impossible due to imbalance.”

“Hanging out in ibiza with a bunch of friends and partying with famous people, able to do whatever I want, and I've never felt more isolated.”

“When we sold the company, the biggest effort went into making sure the employees got taken care of, and they all hate me now.”

Markus Persson

Some things money can’t buy.

Illness free health. A supportive spouse. Overachieving children. Family and friends that enjoy them for who they are, not the number of commas in their bank account.

We all know it, but for some reason the human brain believes that endless money will solve all our problems. That is, until you get endless money.

Hot take. Wealth isn’t nearly as much about the number in your bank account as society makes it out to be.

Wealth is a combination of finances, health, family, and friends. The wild part is physical dollars are only really useful for one of the four.

Conclusion

Now yes, there are billionaires out there that lead great lives outside of their checkbook. I’ll admit, Markus is a cherry picked example.

The point here is to not tie everything in life back to money as there are many things to enjoy, that do not have a price tag.

If I had to choose between being a wealthy millionaire or a poor billionaire, I’d choose the first every time.

Stay not poor my friends. ~ Cade
